MONTGOMERY, Ala., (July 19, 2023) – Montgomery has emerged as a tech hub in Alabama with the expansion of C Spire’s fiber network and ultra-fast broadband internet in the city.
C Spire – a diversified telecommunications and technology services company – has delivered fiber availability to nearly 2,000 homes and more than 400 businesses in the Montgomery area and is aggressively installing fiber to reach nearly 3,000 homes encompassing 15 fiberhoods (one or more connected neighborhoods) across the city in the next phase.
“C Spire’s fiber network expansion to Montgomery will complement our community’s unique IT assets while bolstering the economic development potential of our region,” Mayor Steven L. Reed said. “This world-class fiber network will be a game changer for the entire River Region.”
C Spire recently completed the rebranding of Troy Cablevision, Inc. in Alabama. The acquisition – which was announced in 2021 – has accelerated C Spire’s fiber-based expansion throughout the state, providing ultra-fast broadband internet access and related services.
Troy Cable built the first fiber in Montgomery in 2013 and was the first internet service provider (ISP) to connect to the Montgomery Internet Exchange, a visionary collaboration between Montgomery County, the city of Montgomery and Maxwell Air Force Base. In all, C Spire has built a thriving fiber network spanning more than 100 communities in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.

“Increasing accessible fiber enables consumers, businesses, schools and government agencies to access ultra-fast broadband services more cost-effectively now and for decades into the future."
C Spire is amid a three-year, $500 million investment in fiber infrastructure and network development in Alabama to provide ultra-fast broadband internet access for consumers and other advanced voice and data services to businesses. This initiative, announced in January of 2021, is part of a $1 billion investment across Alabama and Mississippi – the largest capital spends in the firm’s history. C Spire has also completed a 243-mile-long haul fiber initiative from Meridian, Miss. to Homewood, Ala., bringing additional fiber access to new areas in the state.

Mayor Reed has appointed Octavius Jackson, business consultant with O. Maynard Jackson & Associates, LLC, to serve as the liaison for this initiative. Jackson has a track record of strategic leadership and execution. He most recently served as the chief clerk for the Montgomery County Probate Court. Jackson has also worked for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, where he served as national sales manager responsible for recruiting meetings, conventions and sporting events to the capital city during his tenure.
